About Ham Radio

Ham radio, also known as amateur radio, is a fascinating hobby and service that brings people, electronics, and communication together. It’s used for emergency communication, experimentation, and simply having fun with radio waves.

My Journey

Obtaining the Extra class license was a challenging but rewarding journey. It required extensive knowledge of advanced technical concepts, operating practices, and regulatory requirements. This license grants the highest level of operating privileges, allowing me access to all amateur radio frequencies and bands.

Projects and Activities

As KZ4P, I have engaged in numerous exciting projects, including building custom antennas, participating in emergency communication drills, and experimenting with digital modes, including being occasional net control for the Denn (Digital Education Net for Newbies) with the Philmont Mobile Radio Club. I also enjoy connecting with ham radio operators worldwide, sharing knowledge, and learning from the global community.

Resources

For those interested in ham radio, here are some valuable resources: (I will add additional resources as I discover them so check back periodically.)

  • ARRL (American Radio Relay League): The national association for amateur radio in the US.
  • HamStudy.org: A great tool for studying and practicing for your ham radio exams.
  • QRZ.com: A comprehensive database of amateur radio call signs.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to learn more about the fascinating world of ham radio!
